In this video we will show you how to upcycle your broken IKEA pots (or any broken ceramics you have at home) with the aesthetic Japanese mending method of Kintsugi (the golden joinery).
Kintsugi is a japanese art form which is often associated with Wabi Sabi, seeing beauty in imperfection. However, we took a few shortcuts and liberties repairing our pots and built them the IKEA way. With just a few tools you can create unique pieces of art at home, basically for free.

Having had a few setbacks and going through a rough phase lately, reminded us of a video the Maker Monster made a while ago. We know in this video The Maker Monster referred to the ugly phase that every creative has experienced in their work. The phase where a previously awesome sketch turns into ugly mess when trying to do the final artwork. The phase when a brilliant idea turns to mehh when trying to execute it.

But for us the quote “push through the ugly phase” goes way deeper. It’s the cheering of your friends when you take part in a race and you lose your strength . It’s the uplift you need when everything goes south. It’s the “there will be light at the end of the tunnel”, when you just entered the dark.

So when you are in the ugly phase right now, no matter if it is about a creative project, the weather, a client, your shop situation, a relationship etc. PUSH THROUGH IT. Because if you don’t, you’ll never find out what being in the ugly phase was good for.
